Book Review: “Getting to Mr. Right,” by Carol Balawyder ๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸŽ’

Image

One of my summer reading books,

“Getting to Mr. Right,”

written by Carol Balawyder,

a dear friend and fellow blogger,

was right away a plot with

great characters who

I was curious to find

out more about!

The main character, Campbell,

has studied the subject of

Father – Daughter

relationships.

Is there a correlation

between women who have

strained or “broken” relations

with their father and inability

to develop close, nurturing

futures with men?

Do these women somehow

search, without possible hope,

for their Prince Charming?

Do they set too lofty of expectations

for boyfriends, husbands and partners?

Four women of varied ages meet

at a research group where over

time, it develops into combination

of fun, therapy, counseling and

support for those who have had

negative relationships with

their fathers. It starts as a

series of workshops, but

attendance is a low

turnout, so their

personal journeys

create support,

bonds of trust

and close

friendships.

The women are Campbell,

who leads the group and wants to

confirm her research one last time

before receiving her international award.

There’s Missi, whose husband

has left her for another woman.

Missi has many possibilities

of choices and must find

which direction her dream

will take her. Her story

seemed easy to relate to,

her age close to mine.

Two sad occurrences seem to

have created an outwardly

attractive woman who shows

a proclivity to choose much

younger men, in Suzy’s

character. Her “back” stories

were deftly described and slowly

disclosed. Her story is probably

the most shocking and dramatic.

Felcity reminded me of my youngest

daughter, in her confidence and some

of her business acumen. It takes

awhile, in the book, to find out

why she belongs in this group.

She definitely has major

changes and an overhaul to

reach her future’s path.

Campbell’s story is one

I really enjoyed a lot!

Being the group leader

doesn’t mean she has ~

“Everything figured out!”

* . *.  *. * . *

Who will find their future in a new

business? Who will fall deeply in love?

Who decides studying abroad will

be her window of opportunity?

Lastly, who may just rent a part

of her house to help pay her

bills and become close

to her roommate?

Is Prince Charming a myth?

I hope this book review will entice

you to buy Carol Balawyder’s book!

This is the second summer book

review that I have completed!

I would have liked to read

Carol’s book about a woman

who finds out she has MS,

Multiple Sclerosis, who

was actually one of the

four characters who were

original members of this group!

Here is Carol’s book series:

“Missi’s Dating Adventures,”

“Cafe Paradise,” and

“Not By Design.”

When you visit her blog,

you will feel quite at home,

since Carol is a cheerful person.

Hope you will enjoy her blog

and consider starting her series

with this 5 out of 5 rated book!

Let’s sit together on a park benchย

Image

Come sit with me, take a

few moments to chat and

reminisce of bygone days.

The days are passing quickly,

not enough seconds spent

relaxing, breathing and

feeling the sunshine

permeate our bones.

โ˜€  **  ๐ŸŒž  **  โ˜€

Remember how the

Summer stretched

before you after

you threw your

satchel, backpack

or knapsack into the

bottom of your closet?

School was out and it felt

like long stretches of nothing

but joy and carefree playtime

lay ahead of you, where

even nightime held fun.

๐ŸŒ  ๐ŸŒ›  ๐ŸŒ  ๐ŸŒœ ๐ŸŒ

You liked to play from sunrise

until dark, taking breaks to eat

and possibly getting books from

the library or the bookmobile.

๐Ÿš   ๐Ÿ“‘  ๐Ÿ“—   ๐Ÿ“–    ๐Ÿ“”  ๐Ÿ“˜   ๐Ÿš

I had a place where I remember

curling up and getting absorbed

in books. What some call now,

“being fully engaged” in

other worlds, real life

biographies or

imaginary stories in

fantasies or science fiction.

I now take books to read to parks

while my grandchildren chase

each other across playground

equipment shouting, “You’re It!”

I’d be happy to join them, used

to do this often with my own

kids. I now savor relaxing,

resting and knowing

ways to make an

impact without

wearing out

oneself.

Book Review: “Second Chance Romance,” by Jill Weatherholt ๐ŸŒธ

Image

On vacation, I had the pleasure of

reading a book titled,

“Second Chance Romance,”

by fellow blogging friend,

Jill Weatherholt.

An accident brings the female character

into the arms of emergency worker,

paramedic Jackson.

Melanie was on her way to Aunt

Phoebe’s from the big city,

to talk her into moving closer to her.

Rebecca is Jackson’s daughter

who pulls on her heartstrings.

There is sadness in her eyes, the story

slowly revealed. Only when her aunt

becomes incapacitated for awhile,

does her pace slow down, her focus

becomes aware of how small town

folks can unite and transcend

over obstacles. This endears

the locals to her own hurting

heart. There’s an unexpected

“Bump in the road,” a twist in the plot.

The story has levels, faith and

layers, like an onion you will

peel off, unraveling two sad

situations, potentially making

one whole out of the broken pieces.

Jill Weatherholt is a dear friend,

who drew me in through her ability

to describe setting and characters,

creating a reality from written words.

She’s also been a gracious hostess

for summer season, featuring

fellow bloggers who are

authors. This was one

of my pile of books.

๐Ÿ“” ๐Ÿ“–  ๐Ÿ“š ๐Ÿ“• ๐Ÿ“—

It held my attention.

If I were rating this,

I would give it a

Five stars of five!

You’re in for a treat or more!

A traditional store’s closing: Sears, Roebuck and Co

Image

My friend, Dan Antion, had mentioned

Sears recently on his blog, saying his

local Sears store is closing. His drive

to “the mall Sears” is not favorite

idea of a shopping trip. He also

connects to his own 2014 post

which includes Sears again.

Here is Dan’s “manly” recent post:

Escape to Sears

๐Ÿ•ถ ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿšฒ ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ•ถ

I agree, Sears stores closing

makes me saddened and sorry.

Nostalgia and memories flow,

~ established in 1886 ~

We are lucky to have a local

Sears Hardware Store,

(Delaware, Ohio)

where lawn mowers,

bathroom fixtures,

๐Ÿ› ๐Ÿšฟ ๐Ÿšฝ

appliances and gardening

tools are readily available.

I like checking out holiday

* ๐ŸŒท๐Ÿ‡ ๐Ÿค *  ๐ŸŽ…  *  ๐Ÿค– ๐Ÿ‘ป ๐ŸŽƒ *  ๐Ÿฆƒ  *

and seasonal decorations there.

No yard to buy bird feeders or

bird baths, although I like to get

manly, leather work gloves

as well as shoes for son.

๐Ÿ‘ž๐Ÿ‘ž   ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

Recently, I traveled three times

down to Sears located at the

Polaris Mall and Towne Centre.

First, to Sears Optical to see

Dr. Rochelle Wagner,

who is truly a great

Optometrist.

๐Ÿ‘€ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘€

Next, back to

choose eyeglasses,

meeting daughter for her advice.

A great price for two pairs of

selected frames, all are given

400 Ultraviolet protection,

adding $20 for polarized

brown-colored tint for a

fantastic price total = $127.00!

๐Ÿ‘“  ๐Ÿ•ถ  ๐Ÿ‘“

The third trip down was taking

oldest daughter for special

filmy undergarments,

frilly nighty and hose

getting ready for

her nuptials.

๐Ÿ‘™ ๐Ÿ›  ๐Ÿ‘—

(They are already over.)

๐Ÿ’•

~ 7/7/17 ~

๐Ÿ’

We’ll travel back again,

Lara aged 13 now

and meet up with her

Aunt Felicia, to buy

“Back to School” clothes with

Land’s End brand name,

various teen clothing

and cosmetic lines.

Thank you, merci beaucoup!

Muchas gracias and more.

My friend, Danica Piche

has nominated me for

the Liebster Award.

It has been ages

and moons ago,

when I last

received a

Nomination.

There are supposed to be

rules and form to my acceptance.

I am supposed to ask 11 questions

for the nominees to answer

and I may use them to

answer myself. ๐Ÿฆ

~ Tell us your name and where you

live please!

๐Ÿฆ Robin E. O. Cochran

Delaware, Ohio

~ Where do you like to write?

๐Ÿฆ On a sofa or bed lounging.

~ How do you start a blog post?

๐Ÿฆ Honestly, I used to write about

news, music, subjects while now

I see things which I like and

use their image to inspire me.

~ What’s your favorite book or

author of books?

๐Ÿฆ My favorite books are about

Thomas Paine: “To Spit Against

the Wind” and King Arthur:

“The Once and Future King.”

which motivates you to write?

๐Ÿฆ I usually drink coffee and

nibble or spoon a food item,

donut, cookie, ice cream. . .

~ Is it quiet or music or no specific

noise preferred?

๐Ÿฆ If it is a natural photograph,

then I like music but if it is

Thursday’s Doors or needs

research to complete it;

Silence is golden!

~ Do you like a certain genre or

style of writing (or free form)?

I am used to writing essays

but enjoy freeform best

(ramblings, musings).

~ When did you feel you became

a writer?

๐Ÿฆ I used to take a journal for two

weeks of Girl Scout camping. I

would doodle, try to sketch

and write thoughts down.

I shared this with my Dad

when I got back home.

~ Are you more of an artist, crafter,

photographer, cook or ?

๐Ÿฆ Art and photography are my

favorite forms of creativity.

~ Where was your favorite place

to be in your life?

๐Ÿฆ I think beaches, grew up on

Lake Erie, visited my grandparents

in Clearwater, Florida.

~ Who is/was your hero or heroine?

๐Ÿฆ John Glenn and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Nominate 11 willing participants,

who will answer those questions.

Along with my sharing 11

unknown facts you may

never have heard

about me.

I combined

this component

into my new questions

and used ๐Ÿฆ denoting my

answers to best of my ability.

This amazing and kind friend of mine

I know, has hosted annual blog

awards at least since 2013.

Last year, I was nominated

but didn’t feel comfortable

promoting myself.  Now, I

realize not doing this also

prevents you from voting

for others. There are

possible unfamiliar

blogs for you to

freely explore.

Please check
